Description
You're going to love this high-quality Organic Natural Red Rooibos. Iconic of South Africa, rooibos offers a bouquet of slightly spiced, yet almost honeyed notes, with a very good balance, vibrant, and very hydrating. This organic natural rooibos is made exclusively from the leaves of organic South African rooibos plants.
WHAT IS ROOIBOS?
Although it has inherited the nickname, "red tea" in the West, on account of its colour, rooibos is not actually a tea. Rooibos is an infusion created from the South African shrub of the same name. In actual fact, in Afrikaans, "rooibos" means "red bush". It is a shrub that belongs to the acacia family. It grows exclusively in South Africa, in the mountains of the Cederberg region, 200km to the north of the Cape of Good Hope. Attempts have been made to cultivate the plant in countries with a similar climate, but these have thus far been unsuccessful.
WHAT IS THE FLAVOUR OF ROOIBOS LIKE?
Its flavour is very delicate, round in the mouth, and slightly spicy. For an even more sensational flavour, you can sample one of our 2 additional flavoured rooibos recipes: a lemon & ginger rooibos, and a vanilla & almond rooibos.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DRINKING ROOIBOS?
A drink that is very much in vogue, rooibos offers a number of benefits. Although these benefits are less well-known than those of tea, one asset of rooibos is that it contains antioxidants. It is consumed in South Africa for its soothing properties, as a treatment for digestive problems and irritated skin.
However, aside from its unique flavour, which entices many a tea connoisseur, its greatest asset is that it is theine-free. As such, it can even be consumed as an infusion in the evening, without disturbing the sleep.
WHERE DOES ROOIBOS' RED COLOUR COME FROM?
The colour of rooibos has occasionally earned it the nickname "red tea", although in actual fact, it is not a tea. The amber colour of rooibos is a result of its fermentation, which can vary in length. You can also get green rooibos (in this case the leaf is dried, but not fermented).
HOW DO YOU PREPARE ROOIBOS?
Rooibos can be enjoyed hot, cold, or even iced in the summer. In South Africa, it is traditionally enjoyed in its natural form, with milk and sugar.
For a beautiful infusion with an amber red colour and enhanced flavour, leave your rooibos (1 spoon per cup) to infuse for 6 to 7 minutes in water that has been heated to 95°C

Manufacturing secrets
A precious plucking
Thés de La Pagode® respects an age-old tradition to ensure that all the benefits of tea are preserved. Indeed, the quality and fragrance of a tea are determined, among other things, by the type of leaf picked. In spring, in the gardens of Thés de la Pagode®, the "Imperial Plucking" is practiced: the pluckers select only the bud ("Pekoe" in Mandarin) and the first leaf. Another technique used is "fine picking". In this case, the pickers remove the bud and the first two leaves.
