Description

This high quality Organic Sencha Green Tea from Japan celebrates one of the greatest traditional Japanese teas. It has a bouquet of almost salty botanic notes which are very balanced, lively and refreshing.

What is Sencha Tea?

“Sencha” literally means “steeped tea” in Japanese. Sencha Tea is Japan's most popular tea. In fact, it accounts for 50% of Japanese tea production all by itself.

What makes it so special is how the tea leaves are processed after being picked. The same process applies to all the green teas in the world; to make green tea, it is crucial to stop the leaves from oxidising, which takes place in just a few hours. This means tea makers usually pan-fire them. The Japanese, however, prefer moist heat, so they give them a 15 to 45 second steam bath.

It is this method that gives Sencha green tea more distinctly botanical notes and the taste that is so typical and sought after around the world.

What does Sencha Green Tea taste like?

This Organic Green Tea blend has the flat, fairly long, regular leaves characteristic of Sencha.

This Sencha Green Tea from Japan produces a straw yellow liqueur that is very clear.

On tasting, this Organic Green Tea features slightly herbaceous botanic notes. It has a very balanced, lively and refreshing flavour.

Where does our Organic Sencha Green Tea come from?

Sencha tea actually comes from Japan and more specifically from the island of Kyushu.

This is a guarantee of quality because while there is a lot of "Japanese method" sencha in China, it isn’t usually such high quality.

Manufacturing secrets

A precious plucking

Thés de La Pagode® respects an age-old tradition to ensure that all the benefits of tea are preserved. Indeed, the quality and fragrance of a tea are determined, among other things, by the type of leaf picked. In spring, in the gardens of Thés de la Pagode®, the "Imperial Plucking" is practiced: the pluckers select only the bud ("Pekoe" in Mandarin) and the first leaf. Another technique used is "fine picking". In this case, the pickers remove the bud and the first two leaves.
